Tab switcher

Jump to any open tab, or straight into one pane of a layout, without the mouse.

Ctrl+Tab opens a list of everything you have open, the tab you used most recently at the top. The one you were in before is already chosen.

Go back to the last tab

Press Ctrl+Tab, then Enter. Do it again and you are back where you started. Two tabs you work between are always one keystroke apart.

Pick any tab

  • ↓ and ↑, or Ctrl+Tab again, move through the list.
  • Type to narrow it down. The text matches the tab's name, its kind and its address.
  • Enter or a click switches. Esc or a click beside the list stays where you are.
  • F1 closes the list and opens this page beside the tab you are in.

Letting go of Ctrl does not switch. A browser or a remote desktop does not reliably tell Vandle when a key is released, so the switcher waits for Enter.

If nothing open matches what you typed, Enter takes the text to the picker and looks for it among your connections.

Go into a layout

A layout is one entry. Its panes are listed under it, the one you were last in marked. ← and → choose the pane, and Enter takes you into exactly that pane. See Layouts and splits.

Close tabs from the list

Del closes the chosen tab, as long as the search box is empty. The tab you are in cannot be closed from here.

What the list shows

  • the tab's icon, or the icon you gave the saved connection,
  • its kind and address,
  • how long ago you were in it,
  • the key that reaches it directly, such as Ctrl+Shift+3.

The order is kept in memory only. After a restart it starts over.

Tabs in the order of the bar

Ctrl+PgDn and Ctrl+PgUp go to the next and previous tab as they stand in the bar, like in a browser. Ctrl+Shift+1 to 8 go to a tab by its place, Ctrl+Shift+9 to the last one.
