Help · Kinds of tab
Files
Browse folders on this computer and copy files to and from servers in one tab.
A Files tab is a file browser for this computer. It has the same list and keys as an SFTP tab, and it is the easy way to move files between your disk and a server: open a server as the second side and copy across.
Open a folder
- Press Ctrl+Shift+T and choose Files.
- Type a folder path, or click … to choose one.
~/projectsmeans the folder in your home directory. - Click Files in “…”. With the box left empty, the row reads Open “Files” and opens your home directory.
You can also drag a folder from your file manager onto the Vandle window. The picker opens for that folder and offers Local (a console) and Files; choose Files.
Find your way around
- Double-click a folder, or select it and press Enter, to open it.
- Backspace or the up arrow at the top left goes up one folder.
- Above the top of a drive you reach the list of places: This PC with your drives on Windows, Computer on Linux with Home, System and mounted volumes and network shares.
- Click Name, Size or Modified to sort. Folders always come first.
- The eye button, or Ctrl+H, shows hidden files. On Windows these are files marked hidden; elsewhere, names starting with a dot.
Copy files in and out
On this computer, upload and download become plain copying:
- Copy here… at the top right copies files you pick into the folder you are looking at.
- Right-click a selection and choose Copy to… to copy it somewhere else. It always asks where.
- Dragging files and folders from your file manager onto the list copies them here.
Work with a server side by side
- Click Split at the top right.
- Choose a connection: an SFTP server, a WebDAV folder, or another folder on this computer.
- Select entries and press F5, use the → and ← buttons in the side headers, or drag them onto the other side.
Copies go into the folder the other side is showing. Folders are copied with everything in them. Vandle asks before it overwrites anything, and a copy onto itself is refused.
Click the name at the top of a side to show a different connection there.
Rename, delete and create folders
- F2 renames the selected entry.
- Delete deletes the selection after you confirm. Folders go with all their content, and this cannot be undone.
- The folder button at the top, or Ctrl+Shift+N, creates a folder.
The list of places itself cannot be changed.
Keep a folder in the sidebar
A Files tab you opened shows up under TABS in the sidebar. Right-click it and choose Pin, or drag it up into PINNED, to keep it. Afterwards Edit… lets you change the name, the folder and the icon.
