Help · Kinds of tab
WebDAV
Open a WebDAV folder, such as a Nextcloud share, and move files in and out.
A WebDAV tab shows a folder on a WebDAV server. It works like an SFTP tab: the same list, the same keys, and a second side to copy between.
Connect
- Press Ctrl+Shift+T and choose WebDAV.
- Paste the address of the folder, for example
https://cloud.example.com/remote.php/dav/files/me/. - Click Connect directly: …, or pick a saved connection from the list.
About the address:
- Without a scheme,
https://is used. davs://andwebdavs://mean https;dav://means plain http.- A user name in the address (
https://me@cloud.example.com/…) is filled into the sign-in. A password in the address is not taken over, so it never ends up in the history.
The tab opens at the folder in the address. That folder is the top: you cannot go above it.
If the server asks for a sign-in, the Sign in dialog opens with User and Password.
- Save this connection with the sign-in stores the connection in the sidebar together with the password.
- On a saved connection the box reads Remember the sign-in.
The sign-in is only stored once the server has accepted it. If it is turned down, the dialog comes back with "The server did not accept the user name or the password."
Servers that ask for Digest or NTLM instead of a plain password check are answered as well.
Change a saved connection
Right-click it in the sidebar and choose Edit…:
- Host and Port
- Scheme -
httpsorhttp - Path - the folder on the server. It starts with a slash, for example
/remote.php/dav/files/me. - User
- Route - how the connection travels. See Routes.
- Authentication - Ask every time or Password.
Work with files
Everything from the SFTP page applies:
- Double-click a folder or press Enter to open it; Backspace goes up.
- Upload, or drag files and folders from your file manager onto the list.
- Right-click the selection for Download…, Rename (F2) and Delete (Del).
- New directory: the folder button at the top, or Ctrl+Shift+N.
- Ctrl+H shows or hides names starting with a dot.
- Split opens a second side - another WebDAV folder, an SFTP server or a folder on this computer. F5 copies the selection across.
Vandle asks before it overwrites or deletes anything.
When something fails
The connect error says what the server answered. The common ones:
- "There is no WebDAV folder at that address. Check the path." - the path is wrong.
- "The server does not let this user in." - the user has no access to that folder.
- "The secure connection failed - the server's certificate is not trusted."
- "Timed out while reaching the server."
During work, the bottom line explains a failed action, for example that the file is locked or the server is out of space.
Click Connect or press Ctrl+Shift+R to try again. The keys can be changed in Settings > Hotkeys, except the fixed file keys. See Keyboard.
